This album, released in 1972, marks the second release by the jazz pianist Chick Corea after his move to ECM. Corea, recognized for his contributions to significant works such as 'In a Silent Way,' 'Bitches Brew,' and 'On the Corner' under the influence of Miles Davis, sparked a major fusion boom with his 1972 leader album 'Return to Forever.' Titled as such, the entire album consists of free improvisations performed as a solo piano piece. While covering compositions like Wayne Shorter's "Masqualero" and Thelonious Monk's "Trinkle Tinkle," similar to 'Vol. 1,' Corea's religious and spiritual influences are unmistakably evident in this deep and emotional masterpiece.
