The album released in 1973 on the legendary free jazz label FMP by a duo consisting of two outstanding German musicians: bassist Gunter Christmann—known for his work with the European Free Jazz Orchestra, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, the Globe Unity Orchestra, and numerous other free jazz sessions—and drummer Detlef Schönenberg. The recordings were made the same year at the Radio Bremen studio in Bremen. On this album, Christmann demonstrates his remarkable versatility by putting aside his main instruments, bass and cello, and performing exclusively on trombone. Together with Schönenberg’s drums, the duo unfolds a fully improvised session in which sound is released as if expressing the entire universe itself, moving freely between stillness and motion with masterful sense of space and timing. A masterpiece that stands alongside their 1975 release Topic as one of their finest achievements. Original German pressing.
