This is the first album released in 1987 by Depart, a group consisting of Austrian saxophonist Harry Sokal, who is also a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra, Swiss bassist Heiri Kaenzig, and Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer. The album is an unusual one, primarily featuring strange free fusion that makes full use of synthesizers and effects programming. Highly recommended are track A3, which evolves from an intro where the soprano sax melody and cymbals resonate over the acoustic bass's minimal repeating phrases into a gentle contemporary jazz piece, and track B3, where the soprano sax soars along with effects-driven drums and minimal electronic sounds in a progressive fusion style.
A3: Floating Bow
B3: The Forth Man
