American saxophonist Dexter Gordon, who performed with Max Roach, Art Blakey, and Bud Powell from the 1940s, moved to Europe in the 1960s after a period of drug rehabilitation in the 1950s. In 1960, he released a leader album on Jazzland. The album features recordings from a Los Angeles studio session the same year with a sextet including Martin Banks (trumpet), Richard Boone (trombone), Charles “Dolo” Coker (piano), Charles Green (bass), and Lawrence Marable (drums). The album showcases straight-ahead bop that inherits the spirit of swing jazz throughout. Highlights include the Afro-Cuban flavored track B1 and the ballad B2, where Gordon's mature tone delivers a seductive performance. This is the French pressing released in 1981 under license from Prestige.
