A masterpiece album released in 1982 by Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell, comrades who, since their Los Angeles days, pursued new jazz together under Ornette Coleman. This duo had not recorded together since the classic 1969 album Mu part.1/part.2, but in this work, Cherry lightly plays his signature ethnic melodies on pocket trumpet and piano, while Blackwell layers primitive drumming over it. The album captures very relaxed and enjoyable sessions, resulting in a highly comfortable listening experience. You can feel through the music how well the two understand and enjoy each other’s unique styles. The signature phrasing of Cherry, heard in tracks A3, A4, and A6, is absolutely top-notch, but it’s the pocket trumpet solo in the final track, B6, that really tugs at the heartstrings. This is a highly recommended album. It's a domestic promo version.
A3: Solidarity
A6: Makondi
