An album released in 1979 by American pianist Don Pullen, who rose to prominence in the 1960s with Giuseppi Logan's group. Pullen left behind numerous notable sessions, collaborating with Milford Graves, as well as Albert Ayler, Charles Mingus, and George Adams. This recording was made in a studio in Milan, Italy, in 1978, together with Art Ensemble of Chicago’s drummer/percussionist Don Moye. While the album mainly features energetic avant-garde jazz, with aggressive interplay, the highlight is undoubtedly the title track on B1. This exquisite reggae tune showcases Pullen’s organ grooving slowly alongside a deliberate percussive beat, a performance so brilliant it could be considered an answer to Kool & The Gang’s "Summer Madness." Highly recommended.
