Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition is a group led by American jazz drummer/pianist Jack Dejohenette, who has played on numerous sessions with Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett, and has left many masterpieces on ECM. This album was released in 1987. The sextet features Mick Goodrick (g), Greg Osby (sa,ss), Lonnie Plaxico (b), and Gary Thomas (ts,ft), and Nana Vasconcelos as special guest. Short tracks with percussion and drums by DeJohnette and Nana were used for the opening, interlude, and ending of the album, and the sound production was excellent, with an Afro/Brazilian ethnic flavor and an urban feel. DeJohnette also blends digital equipment such as drum machines and synthesizers, which is a characteristic of this period. Highly recommended.
