This album, released by American pianist Jaki Byard on Prestige in 1969, showcases his emergence as a member of the Charlie Mariano Group in the early 1950s, followed by stints with Maynard Ferguson and Charles Mingus before forming his own leader group in 1960 and leaving numerous works on labels like Prestige and New Jazz. It features a quartet with Roland Kirk (ts, cl), Richard Davis (b), and Alan Dawson (ds). Opening with a quirky intro, the album includes a cover of Bud Powell's A1, where Davis' interplay with the bass creates a beautiful ballad on A2, and a blues number B3 that progresses in a relaxed atmosphere, offering warm and soulful performances. Kirk's presence adds a significantly different flavor. This is a reissue from the 1990s in the US.
A2: Hazy Eye
B3: Teach Me Tonight
