This is the 1988 album by the acclaimed guitarist John Abercrombie, representing ECM, known for producing numerous masterpiece albums. Titled "John Abercrombie," the album follows the jazz-rock/crossover path and features Marc Johnson on bass, Peter Erskine on drums, and the guest appearance of Michael Brecker on tenor saxophone. True to Abercrombie's style, his electric guitar weaves captivating waves throughout the album. However, the expertise of the participating members contributes to an exceptionally graceful and beautiful atmosphere that pervades the entire record. Moreover, this album introduces guitar synthesizers, resulting in a superb New Age jazz work with a mellow and clear band sound that stands on par with the likes of Pat Metheny. Particularly noteworthy is the soaring sensation in tracks A3 and B1.
