American violinist John Blake, who participated in the recording of historic masterpieces such as Archie Shepp’s Attica Blues and The Cry of My People, as well as Hannibal Marvin Peterson’s Children of the Fire in the 1970s, and showcased his talents on works by Carlos Garnett, Norman Connors, and Grover Washington, Jr., released his first album as a leader in 1984 on Grammavision. Featuring renowned musicians like McCoy Tyner (piano), Kenny Barron (piano), and Cecil McBee (bass), the album presents a refreshing and lively crossover/fusion sound characteristic of the era. McBee’s groovy bass and the floating chorus by Alan and Lita Blake are also standout elements.
