John Coltrane, an undisputed giant of jazz who leaped from Sheets of Sound to Spiritual Free, released his first leader album in 1957. Each track features different participating members, including virtuosos like Johnnie Splawn (tp), Sahib Shihab (bs), Red Garland (p), Paul Chambers (b), Al Heath (ds), and Mal Waldron (p). While B1 resonates with the influence of Miles Davis, showcasing modal jazz, B2 leaves Coltrane's distinctive phrasing lingering in the ears, being a number that was not often performed thereafter. Additionally, B3, where Coltrane's performance follows Shihab's baritone, is exceptional. These recordings capture Coltrane's fresh talent as he enters his thirties, conveying a sense of his burgeoning ability with an understated charm.
B2: While My Lady Sleeps
