Kenny Dorham, a prominent trumpeter who emerged in the early 1950s and made his mark in groups led by Max Roach, Lionel Hampton, Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillespie, among others, as well as being a member of the Jazz Messengers, released this leader album in 1960 on Jaro International. The album features recordings made in New York City the same year with a quintet including Charles Davis (bass), Tommy Flanagan (piano), Edward “Butch” Warren (bass), and Arnold “Buddy” Enlow (drums). It includes up-tempo numbers like A1, where the lead flows along with a speedy rhythm section, as well as B3, which progresses with a 6/8 beat based on the blues. Additionally, the album features rare tracks like A4, showcasing Dorham's playing with a mute. This valuable recording also includes Davis's soulful baritone. It was reissued from Japan as a limited edition from the Venus Hyper Magnum Sound LP Collection in 1997.
