Les Arbuckle, a saxophonist from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, released his first leader album and only analog record in 1993 on the New York label AudioQuest, known for its high-quality recordings. This quartet album features Kenny Barron on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and John Ramsay on drums. Although Arbuckle released a second album on CD with the same label in 1995, he hasn’t been very active in the public eye. The liner notes mention that Arbuckle recorded this album on the recommendation of bassist Cecil McBee, who was his instructor when he was studying at The New England Conservatory. With support from prominent figures like McBee and Barron, the album showcases dynamic performances of Arbuckle's original compositions as well as a Latin arrangement of a standard by Cole Porter. The sound quality of this label is truly remarkable.
