Released in 1974, this album by American drummer Norman Connors—who made his debut appearing on Archie Shepp's 1967 work The Magic of Ju-Ju and later played with Pharoah Sanders' group—features a stellar lineup. Following his previous album Dance of Magic, returning musicians include Herbie Hancock (piano), Eddie Henderson (trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn), Carlos Garnett (tenor and soprano sax), and Gary Bartz (alto and soprano sax). New additions include Buster Williams (bass), Bill Summers (percussion, vocals), Kenneth Nash (percussion), Onaje Allan Gumbs (electric piano), and Dee Dee Bridgewater (vocals). Recorded in San Francisco, the album showcases a crossover spiritual jazz sound adorned with luxurious grooves—highlighted by the shimmering melodies of the Fender Rhodes, expressive flute effects, and floating vocals. It’s simply a masterpiece—beyond praise.
