This album, released in 1969 by American saxophonist Rusty Bryant on the Prestige label, features his group that had been active since the mid-1950s. It is a one-horn quintet including Sonny Phillips (organ), Grant Green (guitar), Bob Bushnell (bass), and Herbie Lovelle (drums). The album includes club jazz classics like tracks A1/B1, which groove with a danceable 8-beat backing, as well as bluesy slow tunes throughout. It is a masterpiece of soul jazz and funky jazz, with Phillips’ Hammond organ and Green’s guitar playing crucial roles. Highly recommended.
A1: Zoo Boogaloo
B1: Streak O’ Lean
