A 1979 leader album by Hidehiko Matsumoto, one of Japan's leading tenor saxophonists, whose name became widely known in the United States through the occupying forces after World War II. The quartet features Hideo Ichikawa (piano), Takashi Mizuhashi (bass), and Hideo Sekine (drums). The album includes standout performances such as A1, where Matsumoto delivers a passionate blow over aggressive Brazilian rhythms, B1, a moody rendition of a Thelonious Monk classic interpreted uniquely by Matsumoto, and B2, a modal tune reminiscent of John Coltrane. Each note and phrase from Matsumoto's tenor saxophone resonates beautifully and emotionally, making this album a masterpiece. Simply wonderful. The vinyl is in near mint condition.
