During his time at Lenox School of Music following his graduation from Harvard University, American pianist Steve Kuhn, who later made a name for himself in groups led by Kenny Dorham and John Coltrane, engaged with innovative jazz figures like Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, absorbing their groundbreaking approaches. His masterpiece solo piano album, released in 1975 as his first release after signing with ECM, showcases Kuhn's virtuosity. The A-side features relaxed performances maintaining spaciousness and resonance throughout. On the B-side, Kuhn's signature cascading interplay captivates listeners with its dynamic fluctuations. Highly recommended.
