This album, released in 1959, is by Chico Hamilton, one of America's leading jazz drummers who has performed with groups such as those of Lester Young, Gerry Mulligan, and Count Basie. He has also recorded exceptional tracks ranging from cool jazz to mellow fusion throughout his career. The quintet features Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone, bass clarinet), Dennis Budimir (guitar), Nathan Gershman (cello), and Wyatt Ruther (bass). Highlights include A2, where Dolphy's organic flute and Gershman's elegant cello create a beautiful ensemble, and B4, which features an exotic rhythm and flute melody that evoke a sense of foreign lands. This album's unique approach, rich with ethnic feelings, is truly remarkable, with Dolphy's performance shining throughout. While the uplifting tracks are excellent, the emotionally rich slow numbers are especially recommended. This is the reissued US edition released by Discovery in 1981.
A2: Where I Live
B4: Far East
