This is an album released in 1963 by the American Hammond organ player Jimmy Smith, who began his career in the 1950s and established a unique style with distinctive playing techniques, influencing many successors. The album features a quartet with Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Kenny Burrell on guitar, and Donald Bailey on drums. The title track, "A1," showcases a pleasingly bluesy atmosphere with the warm tones of the organ contrasting with the clear sound of the guitar. The B1 track, characterized by Turrentine's soulful and mature tenor saxophone, adds an adult-oriented dimension. Throughout the album, Smith and his quartet deliver top-notch soul jazz with a gentle groove. This masterpiece was reissued in 1993 as part of Toshiba EMI's "<Blue Note 4000 Series Ultra Collection>."
