This album features works by Toru Takemitsu, a world-class Japanese composer who transcended the boundaries of contemporary music to take on everything from experimental composers to film music and songs, performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Seiji Ozawa and the group Tashi led by pianist Peter Serkin. On the A-side, "Katrain" was composed with Tashi's performance and Ozawa's conducting as a premise, and the number four dominates the structure as shown on the jacket artwork, with the quartet's eight bars and four bars as the theme. B-side was inspired by the photographic works of Marcel Duchamp. In addition to an orchestra of Western instruments, a large drum and other instruments are also introduced. Both sides of the work are full of Takemitsu's unique beauty.
