A compilation album released in 1987 on Beat Goes Public, the label founded by Gilles Peterson and Baz Fe Jazz. Arriving just before the explosion of club jazz and acid jazz, the selection reflects the duo’s vision of jazz for dancing as it was being played and tested on the London club circuit at the time. The album brings together eight choice cuts by Bill Summers, Opa, Pleasure, Johnny Hammond, Flora Purim, Azar Lawrence, and more—tracks that are now widely embraced as bona fide classics. A perfectly judged snapshot of a scene on the brink of breaking wide open.

A1: Bill Summers “Brazilian Skies”
B1: Johnny Hammond “Los Conquestadores Chocolates”
