Under the supervision of music critic Ryuji Kono, who has been known for his jazz criticism since the 1950s, this field recording album features Tokyo Station, geisha tatami rooms, a tori market, a yose theater, the bell at Kan-eiji Temple in Ueno, fireworks at Ryogoku, festival music, the Tsukiji fish market, sutra reading at a temple, and worship at Nikolai Hall. The English commentary on the back of the booklet seems to appeal to foreign tourists, but it is a very interesting collection of environmental sounds that brings to mind scenes of Tokyo at that time with sound, along with the sounds. An insert with Japanese commentary is also included in this valuable piece.
