Bayon, formed in 1977 by a group of German and Cambodian classmates who met while attending the University of Myawadi in Germany in 1971, released their debut album on the former East German label Amiga. The album features a fusion of Southeast Asian and Caribbean music with acoustic guitar, electric bass, percussion, cello, and violin, creating folkloric ethnic music. Tracks like A1 showcase groovy percussion accompanying psychedelic guitar phrases and folk melodies played by cello/violin. Track B3 offers a pastoral atmosphere with pleasant vocal and percussion sounds. While incorporating elements of traditional roots music, the album exudes a psychedelic aroma typical of the 1970s, making it highly recommended for its blend of ethnic rock. All tracks are highly recommended.
