This is the brilliant second album, released in 1974, by the French psychedelic rock group Mahjun — consisting of Jean-Louis Lefebvre, Jean-Pierre Arnoux, and Jean-Pierre Thirault — on Pierre Barouh’s Saravah label. The acid-laden atmosphere of track A1 evokes the spirit of Pink Floyd, while A2 features heavy-driving psychedelic rock, and B1 delivers a mind-blowingly trippy sound reminiscent of Gong’s more far-out tendencies. Although the album is rooted in a pastoral acid folk sound, as suggested by the sleeve artwork, it also embraces elements of jazz rock and ethnic influences, creating a truly unique and overwhelming sonic world. This is Saravah-style psychedelia at its finest. It’s also remarkable to see Nana Vasconcellos — who released a solo album on Saravah — participating in such an intensely psychedelic work. Highly recommended.
A1: Fils a Colin-Maillard
B1: La Ville Pue
