Featured in the guidebook Obscure Sound: 640 Hidden Gem Records of Paradise. This is the second album by American singer-songwriter Valerie Carter, released in 1978 and considered a masterpiece. Valerie first drew attention as a backing vocalist for James Taylor. Compared to her debut album, the country/folk influences are toned down here, giving way to a breezier soul/R&B-oriented, danceable sound. Highlights include the mellow A2 track, where bluesy, laid-back instrumentation is perfectly matched with Valerie’s slightly husky, beautiful voice, and the Balearic-style ballad B5, which exudes a refined urban mellowness. The overall vibe recalls a blend of Minnie Riperton and Lani Hall—an outstanding sonic world. Her voice is irresistibly charming. Highly recommended.
A2: Da Doo Rendevous
B3: Changing in Luck
B5: Wild Child
