An album by Indian violinist and composer L. Subramaniam, a native of Chennai in South India, who is well-versed in both traditional Carnatic and Western music, and has collaborated extensively within the jazz world with artists such as Stu Goldberg, Larry Coryell, and Stéphane Grappelli. The recording is likely from the 1970s. It features a collaboration with Palghat T. S. Mani Iyer, widely regarded as one of South India’s greatest mridangam players. Together they perform Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi and Ragamala — vocal and compositional forms central to Carnatic music — enriched with highly developed improvisation. A superb album that allows the listener to fully experience some of the most sophisticated and refined expressions of Indian classical music.
