An African percussion group led by Mahama Konaté—who has also released collaborations with Jon Hassell—Farafina released this album in 1989 on the German label veraBra. Throughout the record, a raw percussion ensemble unfolds, featuring intense polyrhythms and African chants performed on traditional instruments such as balafon, djembe, tama (talking drum), and kalimba. True to veraBra’s reputation, the sound quality is outstanding: percussion comes alive within a three-dimensional sonic space shaped by deep reverb processing.
