This album, released in 1979 as the first installment of the World Music Exploration Series by Nippon Columbia, features licensed recordings from the French label Arion, which is credited with being the first to coin the term "world music" for global ethnomusicological works. It showcases performances by Ion Nicodim, a nai (pan flute) player born into a Gypsy family in Sibiu, located in the Carpathian Mountains of central Romania. The album features Gypsy music from the Balkan region, performed in ensemble with the cimbalom, violin, bass, and cobza (lute). The melodies resonate with connections to traditional music from India, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, while evoking the unique, bardic storytelling world intrinsic to Gypsy culture.
