American jazz saxophonist Marion Brown, who remained at the forefront of the scene from the 1960s through 2000, released this album in 1973. Joined by an impressive lineup including Leo Smith, Bill Hasson, James Jefferson, Steve McCall, A. Kobena Adzenyah, William Malone, and Jumma Santos, Brown delivers a masterpiece of avant-ethno-jazz driven by Afro-primitive jungle sounds rivaling even the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Highlights include A2, featuring Bill Hasson’s poetry reading, and the wonderfully narrative three-part suite B2/B3/B4. Extremely highly recommended. This is the Japanese edition released in 1974 as part of Toshiba EMI’s landmark Jazz Label no Kinjitō — jazz Right Now series.

A1: Once Upon a Time
