An album released in 1988 featuring Monty Alexander, Jamaica’s leading jazz pianist; Ray Brown, the American bassist who played alongside Oscar Peterson from 1951 and was a founding member of the Modern Jazz Quartet in 1952 with Milt Jackson and Percy Heath; and Herb Ellis, the American guitarist who performed with Lionel Hampton and Erskine Hawkins' orchestras in the 1940s before collaborating with numerous artists throughout his career. The album includes a live recording of a concert held in Santa Monica in 1987, with guest participation from violinist John Frigo, who had performed as part of the Soft Winds Trio alongside Ellis and Lou Carter. Highlights include a bluesy and swinging cover of Nat King Cole’s song on track A2, a lighthearted arrangement of a jazz standard on track B2, as well as pieces by Benny Goodman and Lester Young, along with an original composition by Brown. Throughout the album, Alexander’s colorful and vivid piano touch, Brown’s deep and resonant bass tone, and Ellis’ intricate guitar work come together to create an outstanding performance.

A2: Straighten Up and fly Right
B2: I’ll Remember April
