An American composer, Philip Corner, who studied at the Conservatoire Nat'l de Musique in Paris in the mid-to-late 1950s, joined the group associated with John Cage, and later taught at the New School in New York from the late 1960s to 1970, taking over the class founded by Cage, released a cassette tape in 1977 under New Wilderness Audiographics, which is now being pressed on vinyl for the first time. Side A features a live recording from The Kitchen in New York, with performances by Brian Dallow, Carole Weber, Dan Goode, and Julie Winter. Track B1 includes a recording from the Experimental Intermedia Foundation, hosted by Elaine Summers, known for her work in choreography and experimental film, with William Fontana participating in the performance. Track B2 was recorded in 1976 at the New Wilderness Foundation. All tracks feature metallic sounds, likely produced by striking various metals, interwoven with concrete sounds that fill the spatial sound field, creating an extremely experimental yet profoundly ambient atmosphere. This is truly music that lives up to its title. Highly recommended.
