Album released in 1976 by the group "Shitsunaigaku (means Chamber Music) '70, consisting of flutist Ryu Noguchi, violinist Saburo Ueki, and pianist Midori Matsutani. It features chamber music works by contemporary composers of postwar Japan, including Akira Miyoshi, Yoshio Hachimura, and Teizo Matsumura. The liner notes say that the group was formed to revive the trio sonatas that flourished in the classical period, but this is a revival of the flute, violin, and bassoon configuration, and each piece is an avant-garde approach to contemporary music, with melodies that have a somewhat Japanese sentiment floating through the sound field. The sound quality is also very good and breathtaking.
