Although originally from a classical and contemporary music background, Japanese pianist Takashi Kako found his calling in free jazz and forged a unique path by blending elements of jazz and contemporary music. This album, released in 1985, features live recordings from a concert held in February of the same year at Parco Theater. In addition to original compositions by Kako—such as track A2, the title piece from his acclaimed 1983 album L’aubeproduced by Masahiko Yuh, a key figure behind many jazz masterpieces, and track B3, which was later featured in the 1986 album Poesie after being used in a television commercial—the album includes two pieces composed by Steve Lacy. During this period, Kako delivered stunning solo performances that transcended genre, creating sonic landscapes like drifting cloudscapes—highly recommended listening.
A2: L’aube
B3: Poesie (Greeensleeves)
