An album released in 1983 by Italian female jazz singer Tiziana Ghiglioni, who moves effortlessly from modern to free styles. Backed by a piano trio featuring Kenny Drew (acoustic piano), Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (bass), and Barry Altschul (drums), she delivers inspired performances of modern jazz standards such as Cole Porter’s “All of You,” John Coltrane’s “Naima,” and Thelonious Monk’s “Straight No Chaser.” A superb straight-ahead jazz vocal record that allows you to fully appreciate the distinctive allure of Tiziana’s voice and phrasing. It’s difficult to put into words exactly why her vocals are so compelling, but they seem to carry a unique quality that resonates on a cellular level, as if setting the very molecules in your body vibrating.
A3: Naima
