A leader album released in 1968 by American jazz saxophonist Tom Scott, who would later go on to form and achieve success with the fusion group The L.A. Express, while also appearing on recordings by a wide range of major artists, from Pink Floyd and Joni Mitchell to Whitney Houston. Recorded with a quartet featuring Mike Lang (piano), Chuck Domanico (bass), and John Guerin (drums). Highlights include the soul-jazz A1, driven by a funky rhythm section unfolding in 7/4 time and powered by Scott’s fiery blowing, and A2, whose floating, gently rolling groove feels almost prophetic of Marion Brown’s Vista or Pharoah Sanders’ Thembi. Throughout the album, you’ll find superb tracks that reveal a deep and genuine love for Black music. The B1 tribute to John Coltrane is also outstanding. Original US pressing.

A1: Rural Still Life #26
A2: Song #1
B1: With Respect to Coltrane
