A double album released in 1986 by pianist Yosuke Yamashita and shakuhachi player Hozan Yamamoto, who also collaborated on the 1984 masterpiece Breath. This live recording captures their concert at the Amerikahaus in Munich, Germany—the home base of Enja Records—on July 1985. Opening with a jazz classic by Thelonious Monk, the performance unfolds through original compositions by both artists, works by Karl Berger, and even a cover of a Simon & Garfunkel classic, presenting a richly expressive sonic landscape woven from acoustic piano and shakuhachi. The standout is side B1, a breathtaking rendition of Maurice Ravel’s historic masterpiece Bolero, transformed by Yamashita into a fluid yet powerful solo piano performance—an awe-inspiring display of his artistry. Highly recommended.
