Featured in both the first edition and revised edition of the Obscure Sound guidebook. A fascinating 1984 release by German bassist Adelhard Roidinger — known for his acclaimed collaborations with Yosuke Yamashita and for outstanding work on ECM. Trio with Peter Gröning (drums) and Gerhard Laber (percussion). Conceived around the theme of computer and jazz, Roidinger expands far beyond bass, employing Roland SH-101 and Juno-106 synthesizers, the then-state-of-the-art Apple IIe computer, and MFB 512 drum computer to craft a singular electronic fusion sound with an almost library-music tactility. Standout A2 is essential: over a minimally repeating arpeggiated synth and machine rhythm, Roidinger’s bass drifts in deep, atmospheric space. A3 is equally sublime, its laid-back rhythm section swaying beneath a lyrical, songlike bass melody. Strongly recommended.

A2: Kontrabad
A3: Acid Rain
B2: Kreisform
