The first leader album released in 1985 by Alan Simon, an American pianist who has played in the groups of Lionel Hampton and Thomas Chapin, with John Goldsby (b), Ralph Lalama (ts), Tim Pleasant (ds) and the quartet The quartet is a straight-ahead, modal band. The album features straight-ahead, modal post-bop and jazz ballads throughout, but B2, a moody rendition of Duke Ellington's "Daydream," and B3, a cool cover of Herbie Hancock's classic "Speak Like a Child," are outstanding.
