An American pianist who left numerous masterpieces on Blue Note from the mid-60s to the early 70s, Andrew Hill released a solo piano album in 1975. This album, a unique Japanese edition, was produced under the supervision of the legendary promoter Toshinari Koinuma, known for bringing many jazz musicians to Japan for performances and lectures. It was recorded at Vanguard Studio in New York the same year. Hill's performance is utterly magnificent, weaving beautiful, delicate, and energetic melodies through spontaneous improvisation driven by his emotions. The rendition of Duke Ellington's jazz classic on track A4 is particularly moving. Though Hill was not highly appreciated in America during the 70s, it is poignant that many masterpieces were born from the appreciation and understanding of his brilliance in Japan.
