An instrumental album recorded in 1970 for A&M/CTI by Antonio Carlos Jobim, one of the founding figures of bossa nova. Carrying on the graceful afterglow of his previous album Wave, this work adds a more distinctly 1970s outline and a light sense of groove through Eumir Deodato’s production and arrangements. The title track “Tide” is a beautiful piece in which Jobim’s piano and the orchestral arrangement slowly shift in color over a rhythm that sways like gentle waves. “Tema Jazz” brings a more overt jazz approach to the fore, while “Caribe” and “Rockanalia” fuse Brazilian rhythms with the urbane CTI sound. Another highlight is the way Deodato’s strings and horns wrap the quiet shades of Jobim’s melodies in a bright, sophisticated texture. Recommended for fans of bossa nova, Brazilian jazz, and mellow instrumental works from the CTI orbit. Japanese pressing released in 1976 as part of King Records’ A&M - CTI Jazz Series.
