Archie Shepp
The Tradition
HORO Records (Italy) 1978
HDP 13-14 (2LP) gatefold sleeve, Yellow label.
sleeve : VG+(dirts)
media : EX/EX,EX-/EX-(the beginning of C/D has some slightly surface noises caused by slightly wear.)

This 2-LP album was released in 1978 by Archie Shepp, a gem of a saxophonist who, along with John Coltrane and Cecil Tayler, has produced a number of African-inspired jazz masterpieces. Recorded in 1977 at a studio in Rome, Italy. Trio with Cameron Brown (b) and Clifford Brown (ds). The album is a masterpiece of spirituality, with four tracks running close to 20 minutes in length, including sides A and C, which are aggressive and groovy with oriental scales, and side B, in which Shepp sings a Duke Ellington classic on the piano. The whole album is great.
