This album, released in 1959, features the renowned American drummer Art Blakey and his group, The Jazz Messengers, who were active for 35 years after their formation in the late 1950s, showcasing numerous brilliant performances. The album captures live recordings from a performance by the quintet, which included Lee Morgan (trumpet), Hank Mobley (tenor saxophone), Bobby Timmons (piano), and Jymie Merritt (bass), held at the prestigious jazz club Birdland in New York City in April of the same year. It is the second installment of recordings from this session. In addition to the soulful rendition of Ray Brown's composition in the groovy A1 track, there are also lovely slow numbers like the urban and elegant A3, composed by Randy Weston. This is a Japanese reissue in 1991 as part of the "Blue Note The 4000 Series Collection" by Toshiba EMI.
