This is an ECM release from 1984 by the iconic group in the realm of African-influenced Free/Avant-garde jazz, the Art Ensemble of Chicago. While the group is often associated with eccentric makeup, costumes, and avant-garde aesthetics, this album is a masterpiece that prominently features an Afro-centric vibe. On A1, various percussive elements and the long tones of synthesizers create an organic feeling that gently resonates in the space, creating a delightful atmosphere. A2 is exceptionally cool with its funky rhythms, horn section playing reminiscent of Don Cherry, lively percussion, and trippy synth sounds weaving together in a fusion of ethnic jazz and funk. It's a departure from the usual image of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. This is the original German pressing.
