An album released on CTI in 1971, bringing together the queen of bossa nova, Astrud Gilberto, and American tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. Produced by Creed Taylor and arranged by Eumir Deodato, the record gracefully connects bossa nova, soft samba, jazz-funk, and an easy-listening sheen within a polished, lustrous soundscape. On “Brazilian Tapestry,” the gently swaying rhythm and Turrentine’s tenor intertwine softly, leaving behind a distinctive floating atmosphere, while Jorge Ben’s “Zazueira” has a wonderfully light sense of drive and Brazilian groove. On “Vera Cruz,” written by Milton Nascimento and Fernando Brant, Deodato’s refined touch overlaps with the playing of the Brazilian musicians, giving the entire album an urbane, slightly humid warmth. A superb piece that can be enjoyed across bossa nova vocals, Brazilian jazz, and the mellow textures of the CTI sound. Japanese pressing released in 1978 as part of King Records’ CTI Original 1500 Series.
