Glidin’ Along

American trombonist Benny Green, who had been active at the forefront since the late 1940s and collaborated with numerous great musicians like J.J. Johnson and Coleman Hawkins, released this leader album in 1961 on Jazzland. The quintet features Johnny Griffin (ts), Junior Mance (p), Paul Chambers (b), and Ben Riley (ds), with Larry Gales playing bass on three tracks. Track A1 opens with African rhythms and delicate piano, featuring a memorable theme with soft horn ensembles. Track A3 showcases a pleasantly bouncy 4-beat soul jazz groove. The participating members' performances, following Green's warm trombone play, are also superb on this album. This is a Japanese reissue from 'Wave Jazz Classics' series in 1991.
