American vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, who rose to prominence in early 1960s New York through his participation in Jackie McLean’s classic One Step Beyond and later made a name for himself with sessions alongside Eric Dolphy and Andrew Hill, released this album in 1979. Featuring an outstanding lineup that includes George Cables (piano), James Leary (bass), Eddie Marshall (drums), Kenneth Nash (percussion), and Bill Summers (percussion), along with a 14-piece brass ensemble, the album delivers a consistently elegant groove throughout. From hard-bop and post-bop numbers to mellow Latin jazz and sophisticated crossover tracks, this is a true masterpiece showcasing Hutcherson’s refined musicality.
