An album released in 1965 by the American saxophonist Booker Ervin, who rose to prominence in groups led by Charles Mingus and Ted Carson in the late 1950s, and went on to create numerous masterpieces with his own groups from the early 1960s until his untimely death at the age of 39 in 1970. This album features the One Horn Quartet with Jaki Byard on piano, Richard Davis on bass, and Alan Dawson on drums. It showcases Ervin's saxophone prowess, characterized by a unique groove within melancholic and moody melodies. Tracks like the ballad tune A2, which displays a melancholic mood with a unique groove, and B1, where Ervin spins phrases over a boogie rhythm section, allow listeners to fully appreciate the sensual and seductive quality of Ervin's saxophone playing. Byard's piano work on this album is also exceptional. This is likely a reissue of a 1970s US pressing.
A2: I Can’t Get Started
B1: Mojo
