This is the 1979 album by the American jazz pianist Cecil Taylor, who, despite having a background in 20th century’s contemporary music and classical music, pursued an extremely physical expression. The album features a sextet including Jimmy Lyons (alto saxophone), Raphe Malik (trumpet), Ramsey Ameen (violin), Sirone (bass), and Ronald Shannon Jackson (drums). The theme revolves around "Three Phases," as Taylor unleashes finely textured piano melodies with strong attacks, while the other members respond with their own interplay, resulting in a grandiose free improvisation lasting over 57 minutes. It's an intense piece where each musician adds their own layer of interpretation. Despite being completely free jazz, there's a curious sense of balance throughout. It's quite remarkable.
