An album released in 1965 by the legendary American bassist Charles Mingus, who had been active since the early 1940s and left this world in 1979, leaving behind numerous remarkable performances and anecdotes. The album features live recordings from the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1964, with Buddy Collette (as, fl), Charles McPherson (as), John Handy III (ts), Jack Nimitz (bs, b-cl), Bobby Bryant (tp), Lonnie Hilyer (tp), Melvin Moore (tp), Lou Blackburn (tb), Red Callender (tu), Dannie Richmond (ds), and Jaki Byard (p) accompanying Mingus. The performance kicks off with Duke Ellington's medley, followed by Mingus's original scores showcased through free improvisation, delivering an outstanding performance spread across a double-volume set. This is a domestic reissue released by Victor in 1981.
