This leader album, released in 1978 by renowned American bassist Clint Houston, who has contributed to masterpieces by Woody Shaw, Roy Ayers, Weldon Irvine, and Joe Bonner. The album was recorded in New York the same year as a unique Japanese project, featuring a quintet with Joanne Brackeen (p), Onaje Allan Gumbs (p), John Abercrombie (g), and Al Foster (ds). It includes A1, transitioning from profound bass solos to an uplifting Brazilian-flavored progression, A2, with its superb blend of gentle bossa rhythms and piano, and B3, an emotionally rich performance of Dizzy Gillespie's famous piece as a duo with Brackeen, with whom Houston continued to collaborate. This album showcases elegant yet deeply spiritual performances reminiscent of ECM works. Highly recommended.
